Song Premiere: Laurie Lewis & Molly Tuttle – “You Are My Flower”

On March 27, 2020, bluegrass legend Laurie Lewis will release her latest project, a duets record entitled And Laurie Lewis. Among the special guests on this project are Mike Marshall, Tatiana Hargreaves, Leah Wollenberg, Tom Rozum, and Fretboard Journal favorite Molly Tuttle.

The FJ is proud to premiere “You Are My Flower,” the gorgeous Lewis-Tuttle track. “I fell in love with this quirky and happy song the first time I heard it, on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s collaborative album, Will the Circle be Unbroken,” Lewis explains. “I learned the song by osmosis over the years, and now, listening to the original, I realize I have quirked it up in my own peculiar way. A combination of Flatt and Scruggs and the Carter Family. As a little kid, Molly’s presence (along with her dad, Jack) was a constant at the California bluegrass festivals. It has been a great pleasure to watch her grow into herself.”

Tuttle adds, “I loved getting the chance to record this duet with Laurie! She will always be a hero to me, and listening to her records on repeat was a big reason why I started playing music. Any chance to play with her is wonderful, but it meant a lot to me to get to put our own spin on this classic song. As you’ll hear, Laurie is a genius at coming up with harmony singing arrangements, and I think we took the guitar parts into some exciting territories as well!”

Check it out and take note: Lewis will be touring extensively this summer.
