#FJFest: Cameron Mizell – “Finding Balance”

Cameron Mizell is a Brooklyn-based guitarist and one of the folks behind Destiny Records. A few weeks ago Cameron invited to check out his latest release, The Order of Things, composed and recorded after the pandemic struck. As he put it, “This music is slow, purposeful, and meditative, and the process of writing and recording it helped me find some balance and order during quarantine. I’m releasing it on short notice, available everywhere on May 1, in hopes the music might help bring a similar calm to whoever hears it.” The record is lush, with layers of sound, and we were somehow compelled by the Imp of the Perverse to challenge Cameron to make a video that we could share for #FJFest. The performance of “Finding Balance,” above, is his solid response.

Cameron is playing the guitars you almost always see him with, a Collings I-35 LC and a C-100. “I’m playing my Collings I-35 LC through a Strymon Iridium, El Capistan, Flint, and Pigtronix Infinity Looper directly into an Apollo Twin. The Collings C-100 is miked with a Warm Audio W84. Mixed in Logic.”

#FJFest is the Fretboard Journal‘s way of staying connected during these difficult times: Expect to see never-before-seen shop tours from guitarmakers, unique music performances and a ton of beautiful instruments on a daily basis.
