#FJFest: Andersen Stringed Instruments

The La Conner Guitar Festival could be one of the lucky ones — organizers Shirley Makela and Brent McElroy were able to reschedule the festival for July 10-12th, and we hope the dates will be safe (knock wood). Seattle builder Steve Andersen, of Andersen Stringed Instruments (featured in Issue 36), is a regular at the La Conner show. Better safe than sorry, we’re sharing some of the guitars he has earmarked for the festival along with some outtakes of his shop from the aforementioned feature.

Steve builds archtop guitars, the occasional flattop and, these days, the far less occasional mandolin in his Seattle shop. You might have seen his work in the hands of Bill Frisell or Sam Bush. Steve recently did a little pivot in his sales model: He’s no longer taking custom orders, but is building a standardized instrument, a new variation on his Streamline model (interested parties can get on the waiting list for the instrument — he’s building around 8/year), the Fremont model exclusive to Dusty Strings and the occasional spec model (like the currently available Vanguard model in the gallery below).

[Speaking of currently available, the Electric Archie we featured in our Catch of the Day column still lingers…]

#FJFest is the Fretboard Journal‘s way of staying connected during these difficult times: Expect to see never-before-seen shop tours from guitarmakers, unique music performances and a ton of beautiful instruments on a daily basis throughout March 2020 and beyond.
