Catch of the Day: 1993 Santa Cruz Guitar Company Tony Rice

1993 Santa Cruz Guitar Company Tony Rice

If you’re trying to complete your collection of guitars that you heard on one of David Grisman’s Tone Poems CDs, this is your lucky week. A few days ago I posted about the Gibson Super L-5 that appeared on Tone Poems II. Now you can buy the Santa Cruz Guitar Company Tony Rice that Tony Rice himself played on the original Tone Poems CD.

This guitar was made in 1993 and it has a German spruce top and Brazilian rosewood sides and back. Even though Tony has toured and recorded with it extensively, it is still in fine shape. Over the years, Tony Rice has had a number of guitars made for him by the Santa Cruz Guitar Company, and, as has become his custom, when he get a new one he lets one of the old ones go. He has named this guitar Chocolate and even if he doesn’t have room for it anymore, maybe you do.

If you’d like to fill the Santa Cruz Tony Rice model hole in your life with one of the best Tony Rices ever made, send $20,000 to the fine folks at Artisan Guitars and they will be happy to help you out. (Read our interview with Richard Hoover of the Santa Cruz Guitar Company here. He talks quite a bit about his long relationship with Tony Rice.)
