Darrell Scott Performs “Hopkinsville” (solo)

We caught up with multi-instrumentalist Darrell Scott before his March 2012 gig at Seattle’s Triple Door. With our cameras rolling, he performed a solo version of his lively tune “Hopkinsville,” from his 2011 album Long Ride Home.

For many years, Scott played and toured with an all-koa Taylor K20 dreadnought. Unfortunately, due to wear and tear (including a 24-hour period where the airlines completely lost it!), he’s retired that guitar from touring. He’s now playing a 12-fret Kopp Trailboss, built by luthier Kevin Kopp. Kopp is a former employee of Gibson’s custom acoustic shop in Bozeman, Montana. Among Kopp’s other clients is the legendary Leo Kottke (there’s a great YouTube clip of Kottke playing his Kopp here).

Filmed by Matt Miles and Ryan Richter exclusively for the Fretboard Journal’s readers. Subscribers: We’ll be posting more Scott footage for you soon!
