During a recent visit to the Journal, we asked Danny Barnes to play his latest acquisition, a ‘30s Gibson Mastertone TB-4 banjo. Barnes played this version of Don Stover’s “Black Diamond.”

It’s a fitting song, as Stover also used a vintage Gibson archtop banjo. In fact, one of the main reasons Barnes bought his TB-4 was because of Stover. “I’m a huge Don Stover fan,” he told us, “he was always my main hero for banjo. He sang and wrote songs and fronted a band and was a great banjo player.”
