Updated Fretboard Journal Playlist on Spotify: Blake Mills, Ryan Adams, Buddy Miller and more

November 2011

If you’ve ever wondered what’s playing at The Fretboard Journal office, our Spotify playlist is for you. Here are some playlist highlights for the week of November 20, 2011… We start things off with our favorite track from the solo record of Blake Mills. Mills, you may remember, performed at our office about a year ago. We also recorded a podcast where Mills spilled the beans on his recent session and touring work with Kid Rock and Lucinda Williams. Mills’ tune seemed to segue nicely into one by pedal steel guitar great Jon Rauhouse and Rachel Flotard. Flotard is the front person for Seattle’s Visqueen and has been working at the FJ over the last couple of months (you may have spoken to her if you’ve placed a recent order), but I would have put this track on the list regardless of her employment. It’s just a great tune. Buddy Miller is in the new FJ #23 so I of course had to put a track from his latest. Our last podcast was with acoustic guitarist Nathan Salsburg, so we couldn’t resist putting up a track from his new record. During the podcast, he talked about the influence E.C. Ball had on him so we had to dive into the early Ball recording of “Jenny Jenkins.” And, since I’ve been putting the finishing touches on a big David Crosby feature, I had to include a track from Crosby’s legendary solo album, If I Could Only Remember My Name, and a tune from Bob Gibson, who was one of Crosby’s early 12-string guitar influences. Also: new tracks from favorites Fionn Regan and Ryan Adams; a tune from the Who’s newly released Super Deluxe (or whatever they’re calling it) Quadrophenia box set; something from the epic Mike Bloomfield Super Session and probably a few other odds & ends I’m forgetting about. I’m loving these Spotify playlists as it’s a great way to hear the music you read about in the FJ and on our site. Hope you’re liking it, too. We’ll update the list every weekend.
