Seventy Five Years Ago Today

November 2011

Radio Diaries has an amazing audio documentary about two events that took place today, November 23, some seventy five years ago. You see, on November 23, 1936, two guys cut records that forever changed the history of their music genres. On that fateful day in London, cellist Pablo Casals recorded Bach’s Cello Suite No. 3 in C Major at Abbey Road, the first session in his set of Cello Suites that many still swear are the finest recordings of the Bach suites, ever. Meanwhile, over in San Antonio, Texas, a bluesman named Robert Johnson cut his first-ever recordings (including “Sweet Home Chicago” and “Terraplane Blues”), the beginning of his insanely influential body of work. The show will air on NPR nationwide at 4:30 PM EST and will be available shortly thereafter on Radio Diaries site here.
