Joan Shelley – “Not Over By Half”

It’s a rare feat when an artist can seemingly pay tribute to her musical influences but also sound completely fresh. Such is the case with Kentucky’s Joan Shelley. Listening to her second album, Over and Even, one hears the familiar strains of classic British folk music from the ‘60s and ‘70s, but Shelley also sounds completely original and relevant today. It’s a breathtaking album full of delicate guitar playing and gorgeous vocals.

Shelley visited our offices with her Collings OM and music partner Nathan Salsburg (himself no stranger to our magazine, he appeared on The Fretboard Journal podcast). Salsburg and his Bourgeois JOM were the perfect accompaniment on Shelley’s tune “Not Over by Half.”
