#FJFest: Wall Matthews – “The Doves of Venus”

On Friday, April 10 Tompkins Square releases Spine River: The Guitar Music of Wall Matthews, 1967-1981. It’s a gorgeous guitar anthology featuring unreleased and seldom-heard tracks from Matthews, the last surviving member of experimental ’70s collective, Entourage. These reflective fingerstyle guitar pieces are an unexpected revelation.

As part of our 2020 #FJFest – the Fretboard Journal‘s at-home guitar festival during the COVID-19 pandemic – we are pleased to share this video of Matthews performing several movements of a suite found on Spine River entitled “The Doves of Venus.” Matthews is playing in DADGBE for this video.

What is #FJFest? It’s the Fretboard Journal’s way of staying connected during these difficult times: Expect to see never-before-seen shop tours from guitarmakers, unique music performances, live streamed talks with guitar experts, and a ton of beautiful instruments on a daily basis throughout March 2020 and beyond.

Like what we’re doing? We could use your support: Get a digital subscription to the FJ for just $30 and we’ll send you our two most recent issues immediately as PDFs, on the house.
