Bill Frisell – “It Should’ve Happened a Long Time Ago”

We’ve been lucky enough to film Bill Frisell repeatedly over the years. He remains one of our biggest inspirations and is a huge friend to the Fretboard Journal magazine. During our latest session with Bill, he performed this moving solo take of Paul Motian’s “It Should’ve Happened a Long Time Ago.”

Bill is using his heavily modified Fender Telecaster on this track. It has TK Smith and Seymour Duncan Little ’59 pickups; a Gibson-scale length neck (done by JW Black); a Mastery bridge; and custom art by Terry Turrell. On this clip, he’s playing through a Strymon Flint pedal for reverb and temelo, a Line 6 DL4 for looping and a Gibson GA-50T amp.

If you love guitars and enjoy our exclusive videos with Frisell and others, we hope you’ll support us by subscribing to the reader-supported print edition of the Fretboard Journal.
