With the Fretboard Summit at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music just over a week away (August 25-27, 2022), Jason shares some last-minute updates on this sprawling guitar gathering, as well as a surprise announcement or two. We hope to see you there!
To view the complete daily schedule for the Chicago Summit, as well as all the luthiers exhibiting, simply click here.
The Summit will have 50 of the greatest handmade guitarmakers showcasing their creations, in addition to guitar experts and authorities, incredible musicians (Molly Tuttle, the Milk Carton Kids, Julian Lage), and lots of surprises. It’s a rare opportunity to meet many former FJ Podcast guests in person, including TJ Thompson, Steve McCreary (Collings), Richard Hoover of Santa Cruz Guitar Co., Andrew Enns of Yamaha, Maegen Wells, the Milk Carton Kids, Creston Lea, Duncan Price, and dozens more.
For just $30, you can buy a pass to our lutherie showcase, where some of the greatest modern boutique guitars will be available for sale. Included are many familiar names from our pages and our podcasts.

Friday night’s entertainment is the Milk Carton Kids with Vikesh Kapoor opening or Joe Filisko & Eric Noden, plus Joel Patterson. (Take your pick, we have two theaters running!)
On Saturday, the headliner is Molly Tuttle with Courtney Hartman opening. In our second theater, we’ll have a pretty wild evening of jazz with Bobby Broom’s Keyed Up Quartet AND Organ Trio Madness with Fareed Haque & Tony Monaco.
Last, but not least, we have $500 three-day, all-access passes for the true fans. With that, you can see all of the above, plus catch the lutherie showcase before it opens to the public on Thursday and sit in on an exclusive Julian Lage solo electric concert on Thursday night. Three-day pass sales support the Journal, the Summit, and all that we do in a big way. Buy your three-day All-Access ticket here.
Can’t make the Summit? Some of our workshops and lectures will probably be recorded for future podcast episodes. Stay tuned…
