Catch of the Day: 1967 Rickenbacker 360-F

1967 Rickenbacker 360-F

Today’s Catch is an ultra-rare 1967 Rickenbacker 360-F, which is one of the full body series of guitars that the company made off and on in the late 1950s and into the 1960s. In just about every Catch I’ve done, I have had the chance to have played at least one example of the instrument in question. In the case of the 360-F not only have I never played one, I don’t think I’ve even seen one in person. From what I gather, the 360-F was first offered in 1958, in a style with a more pronounced cutaway, a style I kind of like the look of. (You can see one here and judge for yourselves.)

To my eye, most of Rickenbacker’s semi-hollow body guitars were very striking in appearance and didn’t look like anything else on the market. The F series look like it was an attempt to create a guitar with a more conservative silhouette, perhaps in an attempt to attract buyers looking for a less flashy guitar. Whatever the idea behind the 360-F was it didn’t work. The model was an extremely poor seller with only 9 of them built in 1967 and 1968. Still, I think it does have a certain understated charm and I’m sure it has that classic Rickenbacker sound. If you’d like to be the only one on your block, or even in your state or country to own this rare beauty,  just send $8750 to the good people at Retrofret.
