Album Preview: James Elkington & Nathan Salsburg's Avos

Exclusively for our readers and friends: a free stream of the forthcoming album of guitar duets by James Elkington and Nathan Salsburg entitled Avos. This album will be out on August 23, 2011. If you're a fan of John Fahey, John Renbourn or just instrumental acoustic music, we think you'll love this.

James Elkington is a British guitarist now living in Chicago. He was the leader of the band the Zincs and also plays with The Horse's Ha. Elkington also performs alongside the Mekons' Jon Langford. On this album, he uses a Martin 000-1 and a Rodriguez classical guitar.

Nathan Salsburg is best known as an archivist and producer for the Alan Lomax Archive and also serves as host of the Root Hog Or Die program on East Village Radio. On this album, he's playing a Guild D4 and a Bourgeois JOM-V.

This is the pair's first collaboration. Its an album of delicate, insightful playing by two young talents. We hope you enjoy it. And look for a piece by Elkington in a forthcoming Fretboard Journal: he just conducted a lengthy interview with guitarist Fred Frith for us!

Avos will be out on Tompkins Square Records. For more information about this release and others, visit them here
