Bill Frisell – “St. Louis Blues” (Exclusive)

We may as well name Bill Frisell the FJ’s Artist-in-Residence. Over the years, he’s conducted interviews for the magazine – including Jim Hall in issue 12 – and allowed us to film numerous performances of him at work. Last month, as a “thank you” gift to our subscribers, we unveiled perhaps the only video footage of Frisell performing on a flattop acoustic around (a blissful rendition of “Shenandoah”). This month, we’re happy to share this video of a solo Frisell performing W.C. Handy’s “St. Louis Blues.” Frisell is playing his Steve Andersen archtop and a Carr Sportsman amp (with no effects pedals to speak of). The result is pure jazz bliss.

For his follow up tune (and using the same gear), Frisell performed “Embraceable You.”
